Ni Hao 2012!!

Monday 2 January, 2012

What a year; it all started with moving house, country, industry and job. From Geylang to Jingan, Singapore to China, beer to sneakers, APB to Converse. Settling in and getting up to speed in the Middle Kingdom took a fair few months, what with all the red tape, new environment and accompanying pitfalls, and cultural adjustment. Thank heavens for Sherpa's!

Work involved plenty of travel (Seoul, Boston, Manila, Berlin, Taipei, Hong Kong, Kunming, Hanoi & Singapore), non-stop communication, regular milestones and a few cold beers.

Leo hit the scene on 1 August, Kai started local kindergarten on 1 September and we've been searching for our new rhythm ever since. Somewhere, it's out there.

Christmas 2011 was spent at home (now feeling thoroughly cosy and lived-in) with Tzao & Cindy, Chin Yi & Yan Ru, our two small creatures and a deep-fried fowl!

For New Year's Eve, we took the bullet train to Hangzhou and spent two nights in a Wetland Resort - far from the madding crowd with no-one to bother us but a few kingfishers and the sound of silence. Thank you for coming 2011 - let's go 2012!!

Home on Taixing Lu

Discharged on the afternoon of Thursday 4 August, I brought Jamie and Leo home in a taxi and they are now happily resting and suckling. Kai had a couple of episodes over the last few days but has held himself together very well. Three days at home now before I head back to work. Uploading only a few photos here at this speed. Love to all and thanks for your best wishes! XOXO

Zaijian Beijing!

Wednesday 5 May 2010

After packing, we had a final lunch with Song Yang and headed to the airport for the flight home, but not without Kai squeezing in one last round of water play at the business lounge.

Kicking it in the Heartlands

Monday 3 May 2010

Starting the day with some traditional xiao chi for breakfast, strolling and sampling the local stone action, Kai took a nap before heading to Tiantongyuan to visit Titi, Steven and Rebekah. In the Beijing equivalent of Tampines, we kicked back while the kids played, and capped off the day at Lao Bei Ping, a truly quality and authentic Beijing Duck restaurant.

While Baba pushed on with his research into the current Chinese rock scene, Kai played uncles on his favourite bench down on Gongtibeilu.
