After packing, we had a final lunch with Song Yang and headed to the airport for the flight home, but not without Kai squeezing in one last round of water play at the business lounge.

Starting the day with some traditional xiao chi for breakfast, strolling and sampling the local stone action, Kai took a nap before heading to Tiantongyuan to visit Titi, Steven and Rebekah. In the Beijing equivalent of Tampines, we kicked back while the kids played, and capped off the day at Lao Bei Ping, a truly quality and authentic Beijing Duck restaurant.

While Baba pushed on with his research into the current Chinese rock scene, Kai played uncles on his favourite bench down on Gongtibeilu.

Stepping outside in China on May day may not have been everyone's cup of tea, but the crowds were manageable and the weather was playing along. In the late afternoon light, Kai got a chance to chase some kites and eat some Beijing noodles.

Accompanying the Melodramas on a trip to a section of the Great Wall called Ju Yong Guan, Kai wasn't quite able to tackle the steeper sections of the wall, but found it a satisfactory place to enjoy some banana.

At the ripe old age of 20 months, Kai hit China for the first time, accompanied by his Ma and Ba of course. Spending a week over spring in Beijing, he got into it straight away by hitting the hutongs just west of Dongsishitiao.
